Date Night - Purgatory

We went to check out a new bar called Purgatory on 62 East and 700 South.  The decor and the vibe were really cool.  We loved the mural that they had painted by Silent Swan Art.  Check out his Instagram. It's amazing and probably our favorite thing about the bar.

For drinks, we tried a couple off their menu.  Som ordered the New York Sour which had rye, egg whites, lemon, demerara, bitters and a wine float.  Sothea ordered the Hibiscus Mule which had vodka, hibiscus simple syrup, lime, and ginger beer.  They were good so we decided that maybe it was safe to order drinks not on their menu but that seemed to cause some confusion.  An old fashioned got misconstrued as a shot of whiskey.

For food, we started off with the Cauliflower Trois.  Cauliflower three ways; mashed, pickled and roasted with Parmesan chips. It was rather mediocre.  There was nothing memorable about it and we probably wouldn't order it again.

We ordered the Japanese Fries which were great!  Nori and fries go really well together.  Everything was good on it.  We only wish there were more of the toppings on the fries.

We also tried the Soul Burger.  This could have been really good but they overcooked the burger.  It was extremely well done.  It does have the flavors it needs to potentially be a really good burger.

We also ordered the steamed buns.  The amount of meat to bun was perfect.  A lot of times, steam buns come with the tiniest piece of meat.  They did not skimp on theirs.  Also the flavors were good.

Purgatory has the potential to be a really great place.  There were hits and misses all night.  The service was a little bit disorganized but we'll chalk that up to them being a newer establishment.  We will definitely be back to see if they got over the opening jitters and to try some other food items.
