Date Night - CPK and Margaret Cho

It has been a little bit since we've been to Wiseguys Comedy.  This was actually our first time going to the new location at the Gateway. We started off with dinner at California Pizza Kitchen which we also haven't been to in a long time.  It's not our favorite for pizza.  We are both a little partial to Settebello but CPK was good. Also it's right next to the new location of Wiseguy, very convenient.

We got to Wiseguys, found some seats and saw something that we found quite strange.  There was a group of two girls and four guys. One guy was taking pictures of the girls and two guys were holding their phones around the girls for better lighting.  Now that is taking your camera picture game to the next level. Seriously though, how many guys would actually do that?  It was probably more amusing than Margaret Cho's opening act who mostly talked about being short and weed.

We ordered drinks.  Som ordered a whiskey on the rocks and Sothea ordered a gin and tonic. We can't quite remember but did they have liquor at the West Valley location or was it just beer? Regardless is was nice to be able to order since the admission requires a purchase of a food or drink and we had just had dinner at CPK.

Margaret was exactly what we expected hilarious and raunchy.  A lot of it is probably not even appropriate to mention.  She joked about the ridiculous things you have to go through to get liquor in Utah.  She joked about Asians, racial tension, gays, Mormons; nothing was off limits and it was hilarious. Especially the Asian parts because it is so relatable.  She even went to a more serious side, speaking out about how she was abused at a younger age.  Even though she was able to joke about it but it was obvious that it did hurt her and affect her greatly.  Maybe it's her way of dealing with it.

Overall, it was a great show.  Larry and Rachael who doubled with us didn't know much about her but thought she was hilarious.  Good times!

Date Night - Kevin Hart

We actually went out on a date that involved something else besides going out to eat.  That means summer is coming to an end and we have time for other things.  We went out with our friends Larry and Rachael to see Kevin Hart. This was on a Tuesday when most people have to work.  We both had the day off because we just got back from San Diego.  Larry and Rachael both rushed over after work so that we could go grab something to eat before the show. We went to Bout Time.  It was so packed that they weren't even letting people in.  We decided not to wait and headed over to the Maverick Center.  Because we didn't eat, we were super early.

The people that were checking tickets told everyone that they needed to turn off cellphones.  There was a whole bunch of signs that said no phones, tweeting, cameras, etc during the show.  The sign said during the show.  So we were trying to take pictures before the show and got yelled at.  Sothea was told that security shouldn't have let her bring her camera in, etc, etc.  They didn't even check bags at the door.  Needless to say, we were all a little irritated.  It was an hour until the show started and we saw no harm in taking a couple pictures BEFORE the show.   We got up to go get food and drinks.

When we came back, a guy came up to us and offered us VIP passes.  Maybe he saw us get screamed at and felt bad, whatever it was, we were happy to receive the passes.  We were able to hang out in a VIP lounge where there was food and alcohol.  For all you non Utah folks, this is great because at an event, the only thing that you can buy is beer.

We went back and enjoyed the show and after returned to the VIP lounge.  The guy that gave us the passes said that Kevin may or may not show up there.  The boys had their hopes up and really wanted to see him.  He didn't show.  Regardless, we were all happy that we received free food and alcohol and we were able to take pictures in the VIP lounge without getting yelled at.

Date Night - Aristo's and Anjelah Johnson

Date night, last week was a group date with our closest friends, Sothear and Lourie.  We started off the night at Aristo's.  We started of with the Flight of Gyros which is a "must get" item and the Oxtapodi.  The Oxtapodi was just okay.  It was a little to charred for our taste,  The lamb shank is to die for.  The flavors are perfect. If you are looking for something lighter, get a salad and add an order of skewered meat.  The skewered shrimp was perfectly seasoned.

The food was delicious but the service needed some improvement.  We were trying to decide on a bottle of wine. Since we were at a Greek restaurant, we thought we should get Greek wine.  There was two bolded ones on the wine list and when we asked our waitress if she could describe them and what the differences are, she didn't know.  It was a little disappointing.  Then once the wine came out, she did not pour a taste.  We have had bad wines before and think that this is a necessary step.  Bad wines are not because we didn't like it. Bad wines are wines contaminated by the cork, wines that have become oxidized, wines that have been maderized. The wine was fine and actually very delicious.  Then we waited a very long time for food.  Usually, we don't mind this because we enjoy drinking our wine and enjoying conversations with each other.  But not once did she give us an update on when our food would be ready.  I don't even remember her even asking us how everything was.

After dinner, we saw Anjelah Johnson at Kingsbury Hall.  She was very funny and we all enjoyed the show.
