Date - Brunch at Current

Bloody Mary and The Antoinette
Oh brunch, how we love you.  Delicious breakfast foods and not being frowned upon when we have a cocktail at 11:30 in the morning (not any earlier because of those Utah laws).  This time we went over to try Current's brunch menu.  We've been to Current and Under Current several times but this was the first time having brunch there.  It is so nice to see a brunch menu that offers different "brunch cocktails."  What makes a brunch cocktail different from any other cocktail?  Who knows? but it's nice to have an option if front of you besides a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa.

Som, who is on a quest to determine the best Bloody Mary in Salt Lake City ordered a Bloody Mary.  It was good. Maybe in the top three in the city?

Sothea ordered the Antoinete which had vodka, elderflower, grapefruit, lime, rhubarb bitters and sparkling wine.  How pretty is it?!?!  It's one of those drinks that you just want to stare at because it looks so nice and it actually taste as good as it looks.

Buttermilk Fried Chicken

On a different quest, Som likes to try all the chicken and waffles as well.  Now that we had learned to make our own delicious chicken and waffles, any chicken and waffles is compared to that and of course the chicken and waffles at Provision.  This one was equally as good as our own and Provisions.

Hangtown Fry

Sothea ordered the Hangtown Fry.  It is fried oysters, scrambled eggs, mushrooms, bacon on sourdough.  It was good but not something that she would order again for brunch.  It just didn't seem to come together.  Everything on it's own tasted great but it felt like nothing was unifying the dish.

Decor, ambiance, and service are all great at Current.  It's a must try for brunch especially for their cocktails.  Som also ordered the Belafonte which had bourbon, velvet falernum, spiced syrup and lemon.  It's very nice on cold days.

Brunch Date - Whiskey Street

The Bulliet Bloody Mary and Earl Grey Spritzer
Dates lately have involved food or movies. Summer is such a busy time for us. We usually have to sneak in a meal or movie during the week for our date.  This time we had brunch at Whiskey Street. Brunch has to be one of our favorite meals.

Som has a thing for Bloody Mary's.  At Whiskey Street, they have 9 different kinds. He chose the Bulliet which is made with their house made bloody mary mix and bourbon. Sothea had an Earl Grey Spritzer.  It was very good.  They have tons of fun breakfast/brunch cocktails.  We will definitely have to go back and try some other ones.

For food, we ordered the Short Rib Eggs Benedict and the Breakfast Bagel.  We usually don't order Eggs Benedict because Eggs Benedict are Eggs Benedict.  It basically taste the same everywhere. But this one intrigued us because it had their short ribs.  We love their Short Rib Grilled Cheese.  It is amazing so we figured the short rib would also be good in a Benedict.  It did not disappoint.   The haystack onions added a nice crispiness on top.

The Breakfast Bagel has prosciutto, eggs, smoked gouda, arugula, truffle oil, and a roasted red pepper cream cheese.  Everything was delicious on it.  The cream cheese was nicely made.

It was pretty empty when we went so maybe people don't know that Whiskey Street serves brunch. We recommend it.  We love the atmosphere, the fun cocktails and the great short ribs.

Brunch Date - Provisions

Bloody Mary and Mimosa
Last weekend was Easter weekend plus the Final Four so we had a pretty busy weekend. Because of that we decided to have a brunch date.  We love brunch.  Mimosas, Bloody Marys, eggs at 12:00, it's just great.  We decided to try Provisions.  We've been to Provisions for dinner and love it. Their brunch is just as good.  Som got a Bloody Mary.  He said it's the best Bloody Mary he has ever had.  Sothea got the mimosa special which had blood oranges.  It was also delicious.

For food, Som ordered Chicken and Waffles.  We both agree that it is the best Chicken and Waffles in Salt Lake City.  They make a Franks Hot Sauce with a mix of maple and it is an absolutely perfect mixture of spicy and sweet.

Sothea is a biscuits and gravy lover but not all biscuits and gravy are the same.  So far, Copper Onion has been her favorite but this is a very close second.

If you haven't been to Provisions yet, we highly recommend it.  It is very good.
